THE LOST PS2 GAMES VOL 1

so many unreleased PS2 games...

So there's quite a bit of PS2 games that never got released, got cancelled, etc. And I thought why not talk about them in a more comprehensive way?

Daredevil: The Video Game

Yes, prob the one game a lot of people know got cancelled, this game was originally going to release for the new generation of consoles! The PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube.

Being developed by the company Encore Inc. It was going to be a licensed game for the movie that was coming out in 2003, But development was getting a bit complicated and eventually the direction for this project shifted and it kinda became it's own thing. Apparently, Sony suggested different things to the game like the beat em up combat style. However, Marvel was a fan and it got cancelled sometime in 2004.

HOWEVER!!

In October 2023, a prototype build of the game was leaked online by a anonymous developer. And looking at it, it's pretty incredible how well everything looks! It's obviously a prototype, but it's very interesting seeing what they were adding to this game like a whole 'radar sense' mimicked Daredevil's actual power from the comics. It also had a very nice artstyle going for it, that I think could have been perfected if they were even given the time to actual finish the game. There's way more videos out there exploring in detail, but it is a huge shame this project never came to fruition. It's something that is never going to get picked up again and continued on (unless some fans) and I think this game would have brought about even more incredible Marvel Video Games

Aliens: Colonial Marines

I feel like this one was kinda crazy that it got cancelled. I mean it was a FPS game that was going to be exclusive for the PS2 where you got command a whole squad to kill aliens. It feels like the kind of cool that felt perfect for the PS2. IGN actually got to play the game, to quote:

It is a squad-based game in which players can determine the shape of their squad, by simply pressing a button. There are several different configurations, among them a few shaped in a square, a dome, and a triangle, and the squad walks with you and protects you from rogue alien attacks.

The game is remarkable similar to Alien Resurrection on the PlayStation in its pace and look. Players don’t zip around the game like a standard FPS. Instead, you walk around, paced and are constantly on the lookout for alien attacks, which run out of different corridors in front and behind you when you least expect it. Many aspects of the movies have been incorporated into this game, including set design and sound. As you walk through the corridors, knocked out humans, incased in alien goo are strung up along the walls, some dead, and some still living. You can actually save the live ones, who will then join your squad. They will stay with you throughout the game, unless you are unlucky, in which instance they bear little baby aliens from their chest. Then you’re in trouble. (…)

But uh there were some performance issues...

The game moves at a slow framerate right now, but the controls were imminently better than in Alien Resurrection, with quick response and rapid turnaround times.

And honestly I think that's the biggest thing, they're were just technical issues to get the game running at a good rate. It was scheduled to release in 2001 but got delayed to 2002 and got canned on October 2002. The game director had this to say about the game:

The game had some amazing lighting – on the order of what we see in Alien: Isolation or Dead Space – way ahead of its time. Unfortunately, performance and production issues killed that title.

The game honestly looked incredible and honestly wonder would they had been able to get the game running at a stable rate. I mean how long would it had really took them?

I guess it wasn't until 2013 when a similar game popped up LOL

 SpongeBob's Truth or Square

This one is kinda a sad one for me bruh, back when this game was originally called 'Happiness Squared' back in 2008. A demo trailer showcased that this game was suppose to release on PS2, infact it seemenly was originally going to be a kinda 'weak' sauce kinda game. Only planning on releasing for Wii, DS, PS2 and PSP. Of course this was a test demo for almost an entirely different game from what we got.

The version we got was a tie-in for the 'Truth or Square' special episode for the 10th anniversary of the show. That was suppose to be this big deal kinda of a thing, they had a whole bunch of actors to make cameos for this episode. And so the game got released a week before the episode I believe, and it's clear they wanted this game as to promote the episode LOL. And I bet that's one of the reasons why this game only released on Wii, Xbox 360, PSP, and DS. They probably were crunched to hell and had a spefific due date to get this released. Heck they didn't even have time to release a PS3 version of the game LOL. It does however seem like Happiness Square was similar to what we got in a demo reel.

It ALSO does seem like the PS2 version of this game was cancelled early on, as seen by this demo reel that only lists the Wii and Xbox 360 as the available platforms. But who knows, we don't really have straight answers

I love Spongebob man, and this sucks, I think this game would have gone hard on PS2, I don't think they even changed the models that much from Battle For Bikini Bottom?

That's it! Thank you for reading! :D
